Paper creation
By Phoebe Tang
This miniature garment design is inspired by a pair of gloves from c.1660 with two pieces of Latin writing sewn inside. Similar to those gloves, this design re-purposes discarded papers to create paper cuttings and Origami, a traditional Japanese paper folding technique. The paper flowers also bear Chinese characters symbolising:- "To see the world in a flower." Through this creation, I aim to explore the connections between historical costumes and Japanese culture, giving old materials a fresh look and enabling their stories to continue.
