Inspired by ribbon

By Liv Hodgkinson

This design is inspired by the hand-made ribbon bag on display. The ribbon for this was re-used which prompted me to source sustainable materials, including ribbon that has been made from plastic bottles. When looking at the formation of the museum’s bag, with its bell shape and the small squares of negative space, I couldn’t help but think of the cage crinolines of the late 1850s. This plastic bottle, ribbon crinoline in my creation, encases hand-painted “plastic bottles” representing how by using more sustainable materials in our products we can cut down on land-fill waste.
