Behind the luxury is waste

Behind the luxury is waste

By Haiyao Fu

Hidden behind the luxury of this dress is black plastic, just visible through the slashes in the fabric. This is used to reflect the theme of sustainability. The structure of a ribbon bag in this exhibition is mimicked with golden strings, giving it a classic and luxurious look. The work incorporates the Rococo silhouette: the hip pad feature and the pleats at the back of the skirt. Pearls are also subtly added to the details of the dress, adding a touch of luxury. This piece not only demonstrates that ‘behind luxury is waste’, but also embodies how modern design and traditional aesthetics can be combined.
